Music profile: Adnan SamiSami and his Brigade
Some icons are simply unlikely icons and that makes them more interesting – like Adnan Sami. Everyone pants to hear more about him. Apart from that, the plump, ever-smiling music whizkid seems to have made it his life’s mission to have Bollywood actresses in all his hit music videos. While many have written much about this, here is what Sami has to say about them. From the horse’s mouth… Adnan Sami has recently turned music director with Salman
Khan’s Lucky -- No Time For Love. Thers is no
surprise that his music videos have featured some of the
best-known Bollywood names, right from Amitabh Bachchan to
Raveena Tandon. Sami has only the best to say about all the
Bollywood stars that have worked in his videos. First, Amitabh Bachchan. A dream come true. He waxes eloquent
about AB’s professional approach and his perfect PR. Sami
is grateful that a huge star like Bachchan agreed to star in his
video without any starry airs. Bhumika Chawla, he says, has a smile, which can convey myriads
of meanings with a smile while veteran actress Raveena
Tandon’s sense of humor, and histrionic talents are a joy
to work with. What about Amisha Patel known for her tantrums and mood
swings? Well, besides starring in his video for free, she became
a close friend of his too. He likes Rani Mukherji’s
intensity and that showed well on his music video too, he
reminisces. He loves Mahima Choudhury’s sunny attitude and her
expressiveness while Dia Mirza’s dedication and smile have
endeared her to him. Aarti Chhabria is very committed, he says,
considering she had to cry for four days while shooting for his
sad music video – something she did without
complaint. What about veteran Shatrughan Sinha? Adnan had asked Sinha to
act in the climax of the remix of Lift kara de. A huge fan
of Sinha’s, Adnan was disappointed when the veteran actor
turned down the offer. However, Sinha relented and told him that
he would shoot for the song on Sami’s birthday (August 15)
as a birthday present and did. Last but not the least, Sami has
only the kindest works for Govinda, the first actor he worked
with. And no, the star was punctual – none of the famed
late entries into the sets. They had a great time, he
says. His fans wonder if Sami is interested in acting on the big screen considering he stars in every one of them but Sami denies that. He features in his music videos since they are his own and doesn’t think he has any special musical talent. So, sorry to disappoint you folks, you can only hear his music on the big screen. Really, isn’t that more than enough?
