Movie profile: Isha Sharvani
A different kind of Dance
Isha Sharvani, the beautiful, talented dance sensation who has
made her debut in Subhai Ghai’s Kisna, is upbeat about her
future in Bollywood.
For young Isha Sharvani, it has been quite a journey.
Literally. From an ashram in Kerala where she trained in
gymnastics, martial, yoga, kathak…(whew!) to the big, bad
world of Bollywood. And she didn’t even have to audition
for a plum role in a Subhash Ghai film!
Isha, the daughter of dancer Daksha Seth and Australian
composer Vissaro, has performed in 22 countries and started
dancing when she was seven.
The 20 year old who lives at an ashram in Kerala is trained in
gymnastics, martial arts, yoga, ballet, kathak, aerial dance and
more. She started dancing at seven and has already performed in
22 countries in the last seven years!
Her mother is dancer Daksha Seth and her father, Australian
composer Vissaro. Isha’s last name Sharvani means Parvati.
Why the different last name? She explains that her parents also
have different surnames and believe that she (Isha) does not
belong to them and is an individual in her own right. Hence the
different surnames. Ghai, known for his penchant for naming
heroines with ‘M’ names, did not force her to change
her name for the screen. Isha didn’t bother to do so
either.
Acting happened by accident. Though she had received many
Bollywood offers, she was not interested. Dance was always her
first love. Ghai mailed her because they were looking for a
unique dancer and said that she could meet him when she was next
in Mumbai. She did and he decided to cast her as the heroine of
Kisna!
Kisna has been a happy experience for Isha. She was
pampered since she was the youngest in the unit and also got
along famously with Antonia and Vivek Oberoi, her co-stars in the
film.
Her future plans? She wants to do all kinds of films. She is
so enthusiastic that she is already finding a house in Mumbai so
that she can concentrate on her film career. We wish her the best
in her career.
