Music profile: Lucky Ali
Making music with Sur
With Sur being appreciated by critics, what is Lucky Aliís future plan in Bollywood? Here, a peep into the dreams of the singer-composer-actor.
After giving three hit music albums in Sunoh, Sifar and Aks, Lucky Ali has now carved a niche for himself with Sur. For Lucky Ali, acting is an art like music and he did not find it very difficult to switch from music to acting. Ali never had to chase filmmakers to cast him in their films. Offers just fell into his lap.† He started acting because he was convinced about the roles that he was playing. He says that Sur and Kaante were both enjoyable acting experiences since the roles were completely different.
In Sur, Ali plays the role of a talented music teacher who is looking out for the right person who he can nurture and make into a star. When he hears Tina singing in a church, he decided that it is her heís been searching for. Thanks to her teacherís help, Tina becomes a big star. Now, the teacher finds that his darker side cannot accept Tinaís success and this leads to jealousy and negativity. What happens then forms the story.
He is now looking forward to Sanjay Guptaís Kaante in which he co-stars with Amitabh Bachchan and Sanjay Dutt. The plot of Kaante is very unusual - about a bunch of thieves who discover that they have a cop in their midst but donít know who it is! Kaante, he says, promises to be different and unique.
So does he plan to say farewell to music? Of course not. He says music is as much a part of him as acting. He really isnít planning to make a choice between films and music. He would like to continue doing what he enjoys doing at that moment rather than labeling himself as an actor, musician, and composerÖ
What are his immediate plans then? A much-needed break, he laughs. Until then, all he wants is to relax and contemplate on the wonders of life. His life.
