Flying High
Rani Mukherji is once again giving guarded
interviews to promote her forthcoming film Thoda Pyaar Thoda
Magic. Will her film work magic at the box office this time?
After two mighty flops in the form of Saawariya and Laaga
Chunari Mein Daag, Rani Mukherji is back with Thoda Pyaar Thoda
magic. The Queen Bee is not fazed. This time round, she says, she
will win the hearts of filmgoers. Especially because she plays an
angel in her latest. Rani is excited about the film and hopes
that her first release this year will be a hit. Nervous? Not she.
Rather, she is looking forward to her film's release.
She loved working in the film since she was playing a role she
had never played before. Playing an angel was wonderful, she
enthuses. This was yet another opportunity to play a new role and
she did not hesitate to accept the role. None of her
contemporaries have played a full-fledged angel in a film, she
says a tad proudly. The script and the banner played an important
part when she decided to do the film.
She adds that playing an angel actually had its own drawbacks.
Considering that the character was entirely fictional, she had to
use her imagination and improvise as the film progressed.
Apparently, the role involved a lot of stunts which Rani relished
doing. It was fun, considering that she was doing all the stunts
for a change. Usually, the hero does the honors. This time round,
the stuntmen worked with her rather than with hero Saif, she
grins. On the other hand, she had to be happy all the time since
she plays an angel who has come to spread love. She actually
found it difficult to smile and be sunny all the time, she
rues.

Working with director Kunal Kohli and hero Saif Ali Khan was a
breeze considering they had worked before in Hum Tum and Tara Rum
Pum. They are all professionals and working as a team proved to
be easy. Kunal gave Rani the creative freedom to improvise and
she is grateful for that. She is also a good friend of actor Saif
Ali Khan and they have observed each other grow as actors.
While Rani enjoyed flying high as an angel,
she is flying high in real life too. Rumors about her impending
marriage to producer-director Aditya Chopra have been doing the
rounds. Incidentally, this film has been produced and distributed
by Aditya Chopra under the Yash Raj banner. The filmy press
insists that as soon as Chopra's divorce is final, the lovebirds
will get married. All of Rani's best roles have been with Yash
Raj including Black and Veer Zaara. Her next role is that of a
female cricketer - again a Yash Raj film. However, Rani insists
her choice is based on the roles she gets and her lips are sealed
when it comes to talking about her personal life. Like any good
Indian actress, she is not about to let the cat out of the bag.
Still, the glow on her face speaks for itself.
