Jayaprada as Singer

Actress Jayaprada, she of the classical beauty, quit Bollywood a decade ago for politics and became a parliamentarian while continuing to pursue her first love, dance. Now, the actress is back in two new roles – that of a singer and producer for her maiden venture.

Right now, she is busy donning the role of singer. She is singing with Adnan Sami and the music is composed by Bappi Lahiri. Music director Bappi Lahiri, she reveals, has always been her favorite music composer. It shows in the easy rapport that the actress shares with him.

Her current film is a suspense thriller starring Priyanshu Chatterjee, Sandhya Mridul, Irrfan Khan and Johnny Lever. The muhurat is on April 3 which also happens to be her birthday. Directed by Kitu Ghosh (of Chowki fame), the untitled film will be a hit at the box office, says a confident Jayaprada.

Though she has received a lot of offers, the veteran actress is not interested in playing bhabhi or sister roles. She is looking for substantial, performance-oriented roles – like the one in Nitin Manmohan’s Tathastu where she plays a doctor who discovers unethical practices in a hospital. Also a film about a dancer directed by Annu Kapoor’s siter Seema Kapoor.

She has also been performing her dance ballet Amrapali which has been a challenging project. Jayaprada says it was a great pleasure to play the role of a strong, artistically talented woman who lived 2000 years ago. As a politician, she has got the full support of her constituency, Rampur.

Dancer, actress, politician and now, singer. Jayaprada is one versatile lady who is sure to win the hearts of her fans once again with her beauty and talent.
