Music review of `Mujhe Kuch Kehna Hai'Director: Satish Kaushik Music: Anu Malik
This is Anu Malik at his peppiest best. He has never sounded as youthful as in this teenage love story starring Tusshar, son of the erstwhile Jumping Jack, Jeetendra, and Kareena Kapoor, daughter of Randhir Kapoor and Babita and the sibling of Karisma, and directed by Satish Kaushik. The opening song `Maine koi jadu' sets the tone for the album, even though it finds Anu Malik in the `Piya, piya' hangover from `Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega'. The `Piya' sisters, Preety and Pinky, do a good job in the company of Babul Supriyo. Babul is impressive again in the romantic number `Jabse Dekh Hai', with Alka Yagnik. But there is a tinge of disappointment in the back of your mind as Babul tries to ape Kumar Sanu's style of nasal singing. There is a solo version of the song by Alka on the flip side.
`Rabba mere rabba' is a mindblowing fusion of various genres starting from African beats, sitar and Hindustani alaaps and Sonu Nigam demonstrates why he is one of the favourite singers in Bollywood and even outside by his good work. There is also a bit of Arabian music and shehnai thrown in, but it goes to the credit of the composer that he is successful in blending all these sounds very well. KK is terrific in the title song, even though the music is nothing to crow about. He is able to convey well the pain and anguish of a lover. Even though KK is a bit louder than necessary at times, it must be said that the song works and sometimes is as good as his `Tadap, tadap ke' from `Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam', which had music by Ismail Darbar. Anuradha Sriram surfaces after a long time to sing `Dupatta', a zingy dance song. KK does a good job in `Pyaar Re', which is full of Latin beats, drums and trumpets. The song though has been heavily influenced by Rakesh Roshan's score for `Na tum jaano na hum', sung by Lucky Ali for `Kaho Na Pyar Hai'. `Guncha hai gul hai' sees Sonu in a slightly sober mood. A good song nonetheless. Now for some hot news. Vashu Bhagnani, producer of the movie, is planning to add some extra footage to the movie. Some footage, including the above song, were chopped off at the editing table as the movie was found to be too long. With the movie now having captured the imagination of the masses and the box office, the producer wants these portions included. History has shown that the movies in which portions were added later _ prime examples are `Dil' and `Kaho Na Pyaar Hai' _ went on to do more business. Might be the producer is eyeing that. © HindiSong.com 2001
