Movie Preview: Dev
Some of the big names of the Hindi film world have come together to liven up the silver screen. Amitabh Bachchan and Om Puri are starring in Govind Nihalani's film. Joint commissioner of Police Dev Pratap Singh (Amitabh Bachchan) is a sincere and stubborn officer. Special commissioner Tejinder Khosla (Om Puri) is a practical man who does the balancing act between the political interests of Chief Minister Bhandarker (Amrish Puri) and Dev's commitment to the law. Both officers share a unique relationship. There is a deep friendship between them, which is strained by the people and the circumstances around them.
Dev portrays the story of innocent lives becoming victims of political expediency. Farhaan becomes emotionally orphaned after his father Ali Saheb's brutal death. Ali Saheb has brought up Farhaan with ideas of patriotism and non-violence. However, the death of his father and the subsequent incidents make Farhaan cynical. Hatred slowly starts taking roots in his heart. Misguided by a cunning and ambitious politico Latif (Eshaan Khan), Farhaan sets off violence unknowingly. The violence engulfs the whole city. Dev has to struggle to stem the violence. It is a Himalayan task given the situation where no one is willing to see reason. Meanwhile Dev's friend and co-officer Tejinder violates the law and Dev has to confront him. While Dev and Tejinder are set for a dramatic clash, Dev and Farhaan's fates get irreversibly linked. Govind Nihalani's film is slated for June 2004 release.
