Saathiya

The Tamil version was scripted and directed by none other than Mani Rathnam. The project has some of the heavy weights in the industry ranging from Mani Ratnam, Yash Chopra to maestro A.R. Rahman and lyricist Gulzar. Though it is a romance subject, it is entirely different from run of the mill products of Bollywood. Suhani Sharma (Rani Mukherjee) is a young medical practitioner in Mumbai. She is very shy and introvert. Her life becomes takes a turn once she meets Aditya Seghal (Vivek Oberoi). "Love is for people who had nothing to do" – is Suhani’s firm belief. However, Aditya’s constant efforts to woo her do make magic in her. Gradually Suhani gives looses her heart to the charming and youthful Aditya.
A tragic incident separates Suhani and Aditya. A heated exchange between them proves to be the spoiler. After Suhani’s departure, Adtiya is in tatters, not knowing where to go, who to ask about Suhani´s whereabouts. Dark shades engulf Aditya’s pleasant and joyful life. He is determined to find his saathiya, but has his saathiya found someone else? Though it might seem to be a routine love story, the treatment and the way of telling ensure that it is a unique love story loaded a lot of genuine emotions. These emotions and the emotional struggles are not cinematic but natural. the different shapes of love before and after the marriage has been portrayed elegantly in this film. The top star Shah Rukh Khan appears as an element of surprise in Saathiya. His role changes the pace of the film. Yesteryear´s actress Tanuja also returns to cinema with Saathiya. Rahman has given musical expressions to the moods, feelings and the seasons of love excellently. Mani’s script, Shahid’s direction and the performances of the leading stars definitely ensure you a poetic experience on screen. Saathiya is released this December.
