Movie preview: Shikhar
SHIKHAR deals with the conflict between traditional Indian values and hardcore materialism.
Shridhan Vardhan (Jawed Sheikh), an industrial magnate is deeply committed to traditional Indian values. He has a strong spiritual quest. One fine day he steps out of his business to become a social crusader.
Now he is not just Shridhan Vardhan. He is ‘Guruji’. His way of life brings him many followers. He has one vision to be fulfilled: the upliftment of the tribes in the Sahyadry forests.
Gupta indulges in all sorts of calculations but he has not reckoned with the steely determination of Guruji. He cannot gauge his spiritual strength.
Gupta in his pursuit to the success takes recourse to age old technique. He targets Guruji’s only son, Jaidev Vardhan (Shahid Kapur). Jaidev is a fresh graduate, vulnerable and ripe for Gupta’s scheming manipulations. He develops acquaintance with young Jaidev. He proposes that they work together on an image build-up for Vardhan Industries.
Gupta’s ‘plans’ to boost the image of Varadhan Industries go like this: A huge advertising campaign to be shot in Singapore. A large unit of models and crew are taken to Singapore. Jaidev is excited about the idea and accepts it.
They leave for Singapore. For Jaidev it’s a whole new experience. He is completely mesmerized by the charming, smooth and suave Gupta, who introduces Jaidev to the world of wealth ...and Jaidev begins to slip.
Meanwhile Jaidev falls in love with one of the models (Bipasha Basu).
What happens to Jaidev and his love?
Could Gupta succeed?
What is the role of Guruji? Could he stop Gupta’s plans? Could he realize his dreams to bring light to the lives of the tribes?
