Om Jai Jagadish
Producer: Vashu Bhagnani Director: Anupam Kher Starring: Waheeda Rehman, Anil Kapoor, Fardeen Khan,
Abhishek Bachchan, Mahima Choudhary, Urmila Matondkar, Tara Sharma, Parmeet
Sethi, Raju Kher, Annu Kapoor, Lilette Dubey Music: Annu Malik Lyrics: Sameer Om Jai Jagadish is old wine in a new bottle but has some flavor due to good performances and a different treatment. The story revolves around three brothers: Om (Anil Kapoor), Jai (Fardeen Khan) and Jagadish (Abhishek Bachchan). They live happily with their mother Saraswati (Waheeda Rehman) in a huge villa. Om works for a music company and is the breadwinner of the family. Jai, studying in US, has a dream to achieve. He dreams of making the fastest car in the world. Jagadish is a collegiate and a computer whiz kid. He can hack into any comp with ease. Om takes a huge loan for Jai’s studies and
boarding but when he cant borrow money for Jagadish’s studies, Jagadish turns
violent and hacks into the university computer and gets caught. Story goes on in a well-known and much predictable way and they all end up happily ever after. Though the storyline is nothing new, the directorial debut of actor Anupam Kher is just above average. The sensitivity and touching moments are there but the soul is too old. The dead old script and story don’t help OJJ to emerge an exciting film. It just remains as time pass. Waheeda Rehman’s comeback is pretty good and enjoyable. She gives you a reason to watch the film. For Anil Kapoor the role does not offer any challenge but he puts in a sincere effort. Fardeen Khan with his foreign accent has done well while Abhishek Bachchan struggles to impress. Mahima Chaudhary and Tara Sharma have nothing much to perform but they give their best within the limitations. Urmila Matondkar emerges a winner with her meaty role and a good performance to match. Overall, the movie is worth seeing. Anupam Kher´s direction, the performances and the treatment of the story, giving it the middle class family touch ensure that it’s a winner.
