They are romancing via the bottle of coke. They find their doggie Brownie as the means of communication. They love each other but do not want to displease their parents. So, is this the story of "TAAL" all about. Definitely no. Taal is a "different" kind of love story. Its musical.

Taal is about Manav Mehta (Akshaye Khanna), son of a rich industrialist Jagmohan (Amrish Puri). After finishing his studies, he comes back from London to start life anew. The entire Mehta family goes down to Chamba in Himachal Pradesh and there while clicking photographs, Manav bumps into Mansi (Aishwarya Rai). What next? Yes, you are right. A love story develops between them while a training of yoga is being given. Gawd, I forgot. Mansi is a girl every guy would like to possess.

She is beautiful and sensuous. She can sing and dance. Gives yoga lessons to her pupils and Manav becomes one of them.

Enter some uncles and aunts of Manav who want to break the love affair between the love birds. They are successful in separating the couple and flies the entire family back to Mumbai. Before Mansi can shed tears, she is taken to Mumbai by her singer father Tarachand (Aloknath). But the reality strikes them hard when Jagmohan insults Tarachand in front of all and even Manav misunderstands the situation.

But her Mansi's reporter aunt Prabha Shankar (Mita Vasisth) comes to her rescue. She takes them both to Vikrant Kapur (Anil Kapoor) who has been re-mixing all the folk songs to earn some quick bucks. He is a owner of a big music company and recognises talent when he sees one. So Mansi signs a contract for three years wherein none of the artists can marry or fall in love.

Yes, yes Vikrant falls for her charm and helps Mansi in forgetting Manav. They plan to get married but at the most critical juncture, Manav's cottage catches fire and he is hospitalised. Well, Mansi sheds gallons of tears and Vikrant sacrifices his love for the two.

There's nothing new in this love story. Coming from a director like Subhash Ghai. there should have been more depth and punch in Taal. The taal-mel is not too proper. But the cinematographer has done a great job and all the scenes are simply breathtaking. This certainly comes from Subhash Ghai camp.

All the three actors - Anil, Akshay and Aishwarya have come out excellent. There are very few scopes of mistakes by the trio. Though Anil Kapoor comes just a few seconds before the intermission, he has kept the audiences enthralled throughout the second half.

Music by A.R Rehman is already super duper hit and the songs are pictured too very well. In a nutshell, a clean, family-oriented, non-violent love story. Could you afford to miss it?
